Claude Academy is Anthropic's official training portal — the place the company itself points to when you ask how to learn Claude. It is free, it runs on the Skilljar learning platform, and it issues course completion certificates. That much is straightforward. What has changed in October 2026 is everything around it: Anthropic has launched a real certification programme with exams delivered through Pearson VUE, which means advice written even a month ago — including our own — that 'no official Claude certification exists' is now out of date.
This guide separates the two things people mean when they search for a Claude Academy certificate: the free completion certificate you get for finishing Academy courses, and the new Claude Certified credentials that require proctored exams. We also map both against Singapore's funded alternatives — WSQ, IBF and university short courses — so you can decide what actually belongs on your CV. If you want the broader landscape first, our Claude certification guide covers every route side by side.
What Claude Academy is, and the certificate it actually issues
Claude Academy lives at anthropic.skilljar.com and is linked from Anthropic's own learn page. Everything on it is free — you sign in with an email address and work through self-paced courses built by Anthropic's teams. There is no fee, no subscription and no gate: this is the vendor's investment in making its tool usable, not a commercial training business.
On the certificate question, the platform's own documentation is explicit: Skilljar tracks your course progress, lesson completion and quiz scores, and the platform exists partly to 'ensure you have access to completion certificates'. Finish a course and you receive a certificate of completion — free, verifiable within the platform, and clearly labelled as course completion rather than professional certification. Facts in this section were checked on 14 October 2026.
- Everyday work: Claude 101 (core features and everyday tasks), Introduction to Claude Cowork (working alongside Claude on real files and projects) and AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations (effective, ethical, safe AI collaboration).
- Developers: Claude Code 101, Claude Code in Action (long hands-off sessions), Claude Platform 101, Building with the Claude API, Introduction to Model Context Protocol and MCP: Advanced Topics.
- Special contexts: Claude with Amazon Bedrock and Claude on Google Cloud for teams running Claude through hyperscaler platforms; AI Fluency for educators and for students; Teaching AI Fluency for faculty.
Is a Claude Academy certificate a certification? No — and the distinction matters
A completion certificate and a certification are different instruments. The Claude Academy certificate says you finished a course; it is issued by the learning platform on Anthropic's behalf, costs nothing, and involves no independent assessment beyond the course's own quizzes. A certification is a proctored, exam-based credential that verifies capability against a published standard, usually with a digital badge you can attach to a LinkedIn profile and an registry an employer can check.
Until recently this distinction was academic for Claude users: there was no certification at all, so a completion certificate was the only vendor-linked evidence available. That is exactly why so many Singapore course advertisements blurred the two — 'Claude certification' was sold as a label for provider-issued course certificates. Our earlier Claude certification guide documented that landscape as of September 2026, and the honest summary was: Anthropic trains, it does not test.
That summary now needs an update, because Anthropic has started testing.
The new Claude Certification Program: four exams through Pearson VUE
In October 2026, Anthropic's certification programme went live on Pearson VUE — the same testing giant that delivers exams for Microsoft, Cisco and AWS. The programme page lists four credentials, each mapping to a role: Practitioner, Architect and Developer. Anthropic has also partnered with Credly to issue digital badges, which means successful candidates get a portable, verifiable credential rather than a PDF. This is the single biggest change in the Claude credential landscape since the tool launched, and it is worth understanding even if you never sit the exams.
Retake policy follows the industry pattern: 14 days after a failed first attempt, 30 after the second and 90 after the third, with a maximum of four attempts per exam in any rolling 12-month period. Exams are delivered through Pearson OnVUE (online proctoring) or at physical test centres. Exam pricing was not published on the programme page at the time we checked — expect to confirm fees at scheduling.
| Credential | Code | Role track | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Certified Associate – Foundations | CCAO-F | Practitioner | Entry credential; foundational Claude knowledge |
| Claude Certified Architect – Foundations | CCAR-F | Architect | Designing and advising on Claude solutions |
| Claude Certified Architect – Professional | CCAR-P | Architect | Advanced architect-level credential |
| Claude Certified Developer – Foundations | CCDV-F | Developer | Building on the Claude Platform and API |
Who can actually take the Claude certification exams
Here is the catch that most coverage will miss: the Pearson VUE page states that certification is open to organisations in the Claude Partner Network, and that self-paced preparation training is available through the Anthropic Partner Academy to members of that network. Certification also counts toward partner programme standing — this is, in the first instance, a programme for companies that build on or resell Claude, not a mass-market badge for individual professionals.
For a Singapore reader that means three practical things. First, if your employer is a Claude Partner Network member — several consultancies, software firms and AI practices here are — ask about sponsorship; the credential is designed for exactly that channel. Second, if you are an individual outside the network, the free Claude Academy remains your realistic vendor-linked credential for now, and the exam-prep course pages visible in the Academy's navigation suggest individual pathways are being built out. Third, treat eligibility as a moving target: this programme is weeks old, and the access rules will likely widen. Check the Pearson VUE Anthropic page before making any decision based on this article.
- Retakes: 14 / 30 / 90-day waiting periods across successive failures; four attempts maximum per exam per rolling 12 months.
- Delivery: Pearson OnVUE online proctored exams, or an appointment at a test centre — Singapore has multiple Pearson VUE centres in the CBD.
- Badges: issued through Credly, so verified credentials attach cleanly to LinkedIn and HR systems.
Claude Academy certificates versus Singapore's funded certificates
For a Singapore CV, the honest comparison is not 'Claude Academy versus nothing' — it is which certificate does which job. Vendor-linked evidence shows tool depth; Singapore's funded credentials show institutional recognition that HR departments and audit trails understand. The strongest profiles carry one of each. Before comparing on price, check your funding position with our subsidy calculator — the net fee of the funded routes is often a rounding error.
| Credential | Issuing body | Cost | What it signals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Academy completion certificate | Anthropic (via Skilljar) | Free | You learned Claude from the vendor's own material |
| Claude Certified exams (CCAO-F and above) | Anthropic via Pearson VUE | Fee set at scheduling; partner-gated | Proctored, badge-backed proof of role capability |
| WSQ Statement of Attainment (AI course covering Claude) | SG training provider | S$50–400 net after funding | Nationally recognised, maps to SkillsFramework |
| IBF-accredited generative AI certificate | IBF-accredited provider | From ~S$238 net after IBF-STS | Finance-sector recognition in banks and insurers |
| University/CET executive certificate | NUS PACE, SMU Academy, NTUC LH | S$600–2,000 net | Institutional brand HR departments recognise |
How Singapore professionals should actually use Claude Academy
The free Academy is the right first move for almost everyone, and the sequencing matters more than the choice of course. Here is the plan we recommend, which takes roughly two working days of elapsed time and costs nothing.
Step 1: Take Claude 101, then the course that matches your job
Claude 101 is the orientation everyone should complete — it covers the features that trip up self-taught users: projects, artefacts, context handling and the reasoning modes. From there, general professionals should take Introduction to Claude Cowork (working on real files and multi-step tasks), while developers go straight to Claude Code 101 and Introduction to Model Context Protocol. Each course ends with a completion certificate; collect them, but understand they are proof of study, not proof of skill.
Step 2: Decide whether you need any paid credential at all
If you use Claude weekly on document-heavy work and can show before-and-after workflow examples, the free Academy certificates plus a portfolio may be all the evidence you ever need. If you are job-hunting in a market where HR screens for recognisable labels, pair the Academy with a funded local certificate — the routes in the table above. Our free AI courses guide covers the no-cost layer in full.
Step 3: Watch the Claude Certified programme for individual access
The Pearson VUE programme is the credential that will matter on CVs, because proctored exams and Credly badges are what screening systems understand. It is currently oriented to the Claude Partner Network, but exam-prep pages are already appearing in the free Academy's navigation — a sign that broader individual access is coming. If your employer is a partner, push for sponsorship now. Everyone else should revisit the programme page quarterly; when individual access opens, foundations-level exams (CCAO-F, CCDV-F) are the sensible first sitting. Meanwhile, a funded generative AI course that teaches Claude hands-on delivers most of the same workplace value at a net cost of a few hundred dollars.
Step 4: Convert certificates into evidence
Whichever certificates you collect, the thing that converts them into job offers is documented application: three before-and-after examples of Claude on real work — a contract review, a research pack, an automation — with the hours saved quantified. Certificates open the screening door; evidence wins the interview. That has not changed, and no exam programme will change it.
So is the Claude Academy certificate worth it in Singapore?
It is free, takes hours not weeks, and comes from the vendor itself — which makes the answer close to unconditional. The only real cost is your evening, and the courses are genuinely current in a way third-party material often is not. The right framing is what it cannot do: it will not, by itself, pass an HR screening the way a WSQ or university credential does, and it is not the new Claude Certified credential, which requires proctored exams.
- Students and career switchers: start with Claude 101 and AI Fluency for students, then build a funded credential on top for CV screening — our AI course for students guide and mid-career switch guide both map the sequencing.
- Working professionals: pair the free Academy with a WSQ or IBF-funded course that uses Claude hands-on; consider the AI for Everyone course if you are starting from zero.
- Developers: the Academy's Claude Code and MCP tracks plus Claude Code training beat any classroom for depth — and when the CCDV-F exam opens to individuals, sit it.
- Employers: if you sell or build on Claude, the partner-network certification track is a real differentiator for client trust — our corporate training team can help you sequence team upskilling around it.
